Set The Intention

I've known for a long time I'd create this. I've known I would create a space for people to learn about their health and what it means to them and somehow incorporate things I like into it. I didn't know what it would look like, but I've figured part of it out and this is it.

You can read more about my story and why I started Composed Nutrition here. Just about nine years ago I lost my mom + she is the one who initially sparked my interest in holistic health and wellness.

Sometimes I flip through the journal she left. It's where I found the phrase I would get for my tattoo: Set the intention.

I hadn't looked at it in a while. This is page one. To see that it says "put into motion what you want to happen", and the fact I got my tattoo last Sunday on the blue moon (and it says Full Moon right under set the intention). And that above it, it says "now - next Wednesday", and I'm launching this on a Wednesday. The Wednesday one day before April 5, the day she passed away nine years ago. It all seems really surreal.

I hadn't really read this page before. It's at the very back of the journal. Around this time she had been really frustrated with weight gain from all the medications she was on + was doing a ton of research on health and hormones. I knew this, but what I find so amazing is that everything I've been studying and learning like crazy about how to balance my mood and hormones and blood sugar issues with a functional + integrative approach - how it's a lot more complicated that just eating right and exercising - she came to the same exact conclusions nine years ago.

"Weight thing is

  • Metabolic slowdown/thyroid

  • Weight gain

  • Sugar issues

  • Water retention

  • Failure to properly eliminate

NOT lack of diet, exercise, self control, laziness, thing to hate yourself - like we are brought up to believe"

As I talk about more here, I specialize in food + mood, women's health, plant-based eating, and nutrition in recovery because these are all part of my story. They are areas I have dug deep into in my own life to find alignment + balance.

It's my goal to help people understand their bodies + come back to themselves.
